News in Brief： China is the Only Country Having Attained a Millenium Development Goal （MDG） in Reducing Half of Its Poverty-stricken Population

On March 5, 2008, Li Baodong, head of the Chinese Delegation and ambassador, announced that China had become the only country attaining a Millenium Development Goal （MDG） in reducing half of its poverty-stricken population and having realized its program for popularizing basic education ahead of schedule. He made the announcement in his speech in the general discussion at the 7th Plenary Session of the UN Human Right Council, Geneva.
