| Abstract: | As is elaborately planned by Fitzgerald,the patterns of composition in The Great Gatsby perform very important functions in deepening the novel's coherence in characterization,directing the reader's attitudes towards the events and themes as active participants,creating the unity of the story and controlling the emphasis.This is the key why the novel becomes a canon in American literature. |
