济公原本只是南宋临济宗的一位异僧,在南宋杭州浓郁的罗汉信仰氛围下,他圆寂后不久便被传说为五百罗汉转世.对此,口头文学、文本文学不断叠加新的传说以及新的称号,济公罗汉的名号由一普通的金身罗汉到紫磨金紫脚罗汉再到降龙罗汉.这些罗汉名号多有出处及历史文化内涵,而名号的更迭更有其深层的民众心理基础.
