A Contrastive Pragmatic Analysis of Chinese and English Social Deixis

This paper generalizes the concept of social deixis, introduces the domestic and international research concerned, states the Chinese and English politeness principles, and explores the similarities and differences between Chinese and English social deixis from the angles of personal deixis, salutations and honorifics. It is argued that the differences should be stressed in cross - culture communication in order to ensure its smoothness.
