The theory of discourse analysis has brought about a revolution to traditional English teaching in China. It makes a global analysis of discourse and offers guidance to practical reading teaching. Furthermore, readers, the key element in the process of reading, are involved in teaching. The paper emphatically probes into one important aspect-context, and examines how one can comprehend a discourse with the help of the study of context. In this paper, some teaching activities guided by the principles are also discussed.
