《古文苑》与《续古文苑》评析

《续古文苑》是清代著名学者孙星衍为南宋王厚之编纂的诗文选本《古文苑》所做的续本。从选编的标准看,二书都是辑佚之作,辑录的都是《文选》集外、史传不载之诗文,编纂时都坚持儒家思想,并有意挑选各时代的诗文精品。从编选体例看,二者均始于文,终于诔,均比较重视箴、铭、碑、颂等文体,但孙星衍在沿用《古文苑》之体例外,还兼用《文选》的体例,故《续古文苑》体例远比《古文苑》精善;从编者身份看,二人都是江浙人,同为进士出身,都曾在馆阁任过职,又都好古博物,性嗜聚书,尤喜金石刻辞,是当时著名的金石学家和藏书家;从编纂质量看,《续古文苑》在编纂、校勘上更加精良,而《古文苑》有章樵注释,却是《续古文苑》不能相比之处。

An Appraisal of Gu Wen Yuan and Xu Gu Wen Yuan

Xu Gu Wen Yuan was compiled by Sun Xinyan,a famous scholar of the Qing Dynasty.It is a continuation of Gu Wen Yuan compiled by Wang Houzhi of the South Song Dynasty.From the point of the view of the article selection,both books focused on the poems and essays that were not included in Wen Xuan and other history books.Both books emphasize the Confucianism and include the best articles of different times.Regarding styles,both books begin with essays and ends with funeral eulogies.They both pay special attentions to exhortation,inscrption,tablet,ode,etc.However,Song Xingyan followed the stylistic rules of Gu Wen Yuan as well as Wen Xuan The style of Xu Gu Wen Yuan is more complicated and complete.With respect to personal lives,both authors were from the Jiangsu and Zhejiang area,were Jinshi,once worked in the lmperial Academy,loved reading and sculpture,liked antiquities,and especially liked carving in stone and metal.They were famous epigraphists and book collectors.From the view of the quality of compiling,Xu Gu Wen Yuan is superior with regard to collation,but Gu Wen Yuan was annotated by Zhang Qiao.There is no comparison between Gu Wen Yuan and Xu Gu Wen Yuan regarding this.
