徐志摩致奥格顿英文书信的发现及其价值

徐志摩1921-1924年间给剑桥学者奥格顿的六封英文书信最近被笔者在加拿大麦马士德大学奥格顿档案中发现。这些书信透露了徐志摩与剑桥著名语言学学者、基础英语运动创始人奥格顿交往的许多重要细节,其中有:徐志摩曾向中国学界介绍奥格顿和理查兹的最新语言学研究成果;奥格顿和罗素曾邀请梁启超和胡适为“心理学、哲学与科学方法国际文库”丛书撰写介绍中国思想的著作,后来将梁启超的《先秦政治思想史》英译本收入此丛书出版;徐志摩通过奥格顿为松坡图书馆选购英文书籍等。书信还流露了徐志摩在遭遇丧亲与失恋的双重打击下的苦闷情绪。这些信息对于徐志摩在剑桥时期的生活、感情研究有重要的资料价值。

The Finding and Its Value of Hsu Tsemou''''s Letters in English to Ogden

Six Hsu Tsemou's letters to Ogden,who was a famous Cambridge scholar and the founder of Basic English,written in English during 1921-1921 were found from C.K.Ogden Archive of McMaster University,Canada last year.A lot of detailed information about the relationship between Hsu and Ogden can be drawn from these letters,which record Hsu Tsemou's introduction of the latest reserch achievements in linguistics by Ogden and Richards to Chinese scholars,and Ogden and Russell's invitation of Liang Qi-chao and Hu Shi to write books on Chinese Thoughts for the Series of International Library of Psychology Philosophy and Scientific Method edited by Ogden.As a result,Liang Qi-chao's academic book titled History of Chinese Political Thought: During the Early Tsin Period was published as one of these Series in London in 1930.Hsu Tsemou bought many books for Sung Po Library from Britain with the help of Ogden.These Letters also show Hsu Tsemou's pains and sadness from the double attack of his mother's death and his lover's leaving.In conclusion,these letters are very important for those who study Hsu Tsemou's life and feeling during his stay in Cabridge University.
