Memory is a way for Chinese Americans to seek solace in Chinese culture and inherit the culture on a foreign land.Shanghai Girls,the 2009 novel by the Chinese American writer Lisa See,introduced us to Pearl and May,sisters who traveled from the turbulent China of the 1930＇s to the strange and scarcely less turbulent city of Los Angeles.Homesickness is the theme of the novel.The author describes,through memory writing,the feelings of the Chinese diasporas losing their homeland and delineates their deep affection for Chinese culture and their struggle for Chinese cultural inheritance.
