The Development of Intercultural Communication Competence for Non-English Majors in Colleges

This paper, a report on a test on the cross cultural pragmatic skills of 119 college students, analyzes Chinese learners' pragmatic failure from different cultural aspects. Since culture is pervasive and subconscious, and there is no homogeneous culture, attention must be paid to the importance of training the cross cultural pragmatic skills in teaching non English majors so as to improve their communicative competence.
