| Abstract: | Sentential independence is the basic criterion for making the terminological distinction between an independent clause, constituting a simple sentence; and a dependent clause, making up a grammatical sentence only if subordinate to a further clause. Ways vary functionally in the sentential transformation from independence to dependence. |
