| Abstract: | There exist astonishing similarity as well as distinct difference between the theory of typical examples of Billingsky and that of Jin Shengtan. Such a situation reflects both the close connection between Chinese and Western culture on the one hand, and the difference between them on the other. Studying these theoretical connections and differences has important inspirational significance for understanding the essence and connotation of typical examples. Some people think that while Western literature epitomizes cases in the category of typical examples, Chinese literature epitomizes cases in the category of artistic conception. Such a kind of understanding is not perfectly correct. |
