| Abstract: | This paper questions the effectiveness of the traditional Engish pronunciation tests given in many schools for English majors. The nature and format of such tests, as well as the scoring system, are discussed here in light of a reexamination of the three basic functions of language testing. After some major inadequacies of the traditional model are pointed out, specific steps are suggested to improve the effectiveness of pronunciation testing |
