In Pursuit of Beauty and Love among Mountains and Rivers——Comment on Shen Congwen's Fictions

Shen Congwen, a writer with an unique experience of life and personality, whose local fictions show beauty and love vividly and incisively, presented the aborigines' unenlightened form of life and various spirits in Western Xiang, originally in the western part of Hunan province, in his realistic way. As to the theme, Shen depicted the modesty mercy and diligence of the bottom of the society. On the other hand, he condemned the harsh tradition, superstition, rule of clan, turmoil that do great harm to the native's life especially the love of youth.
