A Postcolonial-ecocritical Reading of Heart of Darkness

Heart of Darkness is Conrad＇s representative work.Colonial elements and travel narrative make the novel a research hotspot for postcolonial criticism and ecocriticism.Combining postcolonial with ecocritical theories,the paper interprets the relationship between man and environment,man and man as well as man and animals from the perspective of postcolonial ecocriticism.It can be found that the racial codes and western hegemonic words are broken and the double domination logic of anthropocentrism and Occidentalism are revealed in the novel.In the guise of development,the white colonists destroy the local ecological environment through violence,resulting in the antagonism and conflict between tribes.They view the aborigines and animals as others to slaughter and eventually bring severe disasters to African race and environment.
