A comparative study of the Japanese invasion to Taiwan in 1874

An Unorthodox History of Contemporary Japan is a historical book about Japan written in Chinese by Guan Ji,a historian in the period of Meiji Reform.This book,which remains in good condition in Renjinglu,the former residence of HUANG Zunxian in Meizhou,was an invaluable document that HUANG Zunxian could secure when he was compiling Japanese Annals.The marked parts were included in the section about Japanese invasion to Taiwan in 1874 of Japanese Annals: Diplomatic Relations with China.By investigating his use of Guan Ji's works,it can be found that he was in a dilemma,recording the facts on the one hand and shielding the great mistake of his motherland.This paper reveals HUANG's fact-seeking spirit and realistic writing style,which produced profound influence on Chinese historical studies.
