1885-1888年文硕出任驻藏大臣及去职

文硕出任驻藏大臣,是要完成“开导”西藏地方政府即噶厦准许英人进藏游历通商和设法加强中央政府对藏治理的双重任务。他上任后,既支持抗击英人入侵,又要求妥协让步。同时,他努力加强驻藏大臣权力,推行川藏一体计划,但是他心有余而力不足。由于他未能完成任务,清政府撤去其职。

Wenshuo's Taking up and Dismissing from the Post of the Minister to Tibet within the Years of 1885-1888

Wenshuo took the office of the Minister to Tibet to realize the double tasks. On one hand, he must persuade Gaxia, the Tibetan local government, to allow the British enter Tibet to travel and have trade. On the other hand, he must tighten up the management of the Central government over Tibet. During his term of office, he supported the Tibetan people to be against the British invasion and asked Gaxia compromise and give away at the suitable time as well. Although he tried his best to tighten up the power of the Minister to Tibet and carry out thenational defense plan of connecting Tibet with Sichuan as one at the same time, he was unable to do what he wanted to do.As he didn't realize the tasks, the Qing government dismissed him from his post.
