The paper argues that Dream of Red Chamber is rich in modernity.In the study of the general history of the Research on Dream of Red Chamber, attention should be paid to the cultural evidence of various research phenomena and to the disclosure of the academic traditions,the academic motivations,and the transformation modes of various problems.It gives comments upon the different stages and the major issues of the research history concerning such topics as its hermeneutic interpretation,authorship and editions.
