A Brief Dissertation on the Constitutional Principle of People's Sovereignty

This article introduces the conception of "the people' s sovereignty", the formation and development of this theory, and its influences on contemporary constitutional law. It argues that "the people's sovereignty" has become the prime principle in modern constitutional law through analyzing constitutions of various countries. "The people's sovereignty" is a product of zeitgeist originated from Rousseau, which evolves through long-term evolution and rationalization. The principle of "the people's sovereignty" needs further development. In order to realize its supreme political value and the serious provisions in our constitution in politic and economical activities, it is very important to reform and improve our present political system by institutional innovation.
