On Low Carbon Economy and China's Sustainable Urban Development

As a result of aggregation and the upgrade of industrial structure under an opening-up situation, there exists a complex and diverse relationship between urban development and greenhouse gas emissions. Although urbanization can somewhat be regarded as an unhooking process to sever the connection between the prosperity of China＇ s majority population and CO2 emission, but the development of low-carbon economy may be a more optimized option. In the pursuit of transfinite growth, low-carbon economy requires adequate communication and opening-up. It gives the Chinese cities＇ a new opportunity of restructuring economy and obtaining sustainable development. Through green science and technology, reduced-resource- based economic system, eco-friendly low-carbon economic zone, modern low-carbon management, the partici pation of industrial and commercial enterprises and the public, and the new productive and living style, the low-carbon economy may contribute to the sustainable development of cities.
