The Analysis on Prostitute System in Ancient Greece

The prostitute industry firstly started in the religious rite in ancient Greece. The prostitute was a social stratum which couldn＇t be neglected in ancient Greece. The prostitute had three ranks. The lowest grade prostitute was one kind of maidservant, who faced the common people directly. The second rank prostitute was one kind of song prostitute, serving for aristocrat＇s banquet. The third rank prostitute was the geisha, making enjoyment for the upper circles of society. The geisha affected many prominent characters with their fine aesthetics and abundant economy. But the prostitutes were discriminated by society, with lower status than that of wives and concubines, The Greek society provided ample existing space for prostitutes. Postitutes as well as wives were indispensable to the male citizens in Athens.
