Beijing studies have come into being under a special circumstance.In the past twenty years,many local regional studies have sprung up all over the country,researches on capital cities around the world have been developed rapidly,and governments have been paying more and more attention to the problem of urbanization.This is the background of the coming into being of Beijing studies.The construction of the new city and the protection of its tradition,the adjusting of its urban functional structure and its sustainable development,are not only the questions for discussion,but also the immediate drive for the development of Beijing studies.Special topic researches and basic theoretical studies consolidate the base of Beijing studies and at the same time mature the studies into conscious activities.
