| Abstract: | The control theory is an important sub-theory in Chomsky's generative grammar. Since its emergence, this sub-theory has been questioned and challenged by lots of scholars due to its indeterminacy and thus it arouses much discussion. This paper first introduces the control theory and some related concepts and then reviews the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic studies of this theory. |
