As a striking feature of American culture and a part of American character,Pragmatism emerged in the end of 19th century.Apart from the impact of the scientific development in the 19th century,Pragmatism resulted from the unique cultural environment of the USA,especially the Puritanism in the colonial period.Puritanism,which was brought to America by the puritans from Europe,with practice as its main feature,has deeply influenced the formation of American pragmatic value and is the religious origin of Pragmatism.The puritans attached great importance to the spirit of enterprise,innovation and industrious work,which laid a solid foundation for the emergence and development of Pragmatism in the USA.
