结合Halliday的主位述位理论和翻译学者Mona Baker对于主位标记性在翻译中应用的观点,分析对比英语和汉语句子主位标记性的各自特点,探讨了主位作为句子的起点在传递信息和表达特殊效果方面的标记性差异,论证实际翻译过程中主位选择的重要性,由于句子起点是说话人选择的结果,含有特殊的意义,所以在翻译过程中,译者应该将句首成分的确定与原文主位的标记性结合起来,重视这些有特殊意义的句首成分,提高对于主位有意选择的认识,保持标记性的一致。

Markedness of Themes in English and Chinese Clauses and Its Manifestation in Translation

The article,based on Hallidayan position on theme and Mona Baker’s viewpoint on markedness of theme in translation,makes a contrastive analysis of the differences between Chinese and English themes,especially in markedness.Marked theme,as the point of departure of the message,conveys special meaning and effect because it is the result of choice.Therefore,in the process of translation,great importance should be attached to the analysis of the markedness of the original theme.When deciding the initial part of the sentence,the translator needs to take the markedness into consideration in order to achieve the same intended effect.Otherwise,some subtle differences would be neglected in the rendering.
