| Abstract: | As a variant of English, Australian English can be traced back to the language spoken by the English colonists who settled down in Australia more than two hundred years ago. Its pronunciation bears the characteristic of more variations between groups but less between regions. With many loanwords from the Aboriginals and American slang, Australian English has evolved its own distinctive features such as vividness, colourfulness and expressiveness. |
