| Abstract: | The essence of Shakespearean Dramas is the four traged ies,in which employing the fantastic imagery is one of most praiseworthy brilli ances, i.e. utilizing imagery to portray the personalities of tragic characters, to present the characters' virtue and evil by contrast, and to predict the trag ic fate of heroes. This paper aims to analyze from the three aspects the functio ns of imagery in the shaping of the characters in four Shakespearean tragedies. |
