Political Frauds and the Ghost of Totalitarianism

This paper holds the view that the rise of Donald Trump on the political scene is an example of the appalling lack of historical consciousness and the assault on the civic literacy. The ideological and political disorder plaguing US society is the result of domination of a corporate-induced linguistic and authoritarian model. Under the reign of neoliberalism, space, time and even language have been subject to the forces of privatization and commodification. The attack on reason, evidence, science and critical thought has produced a nationwide crisis of agency, memory and thinking itself. Terror, violence, disposability and greed become the organizing principles of the society. Therefore, the US is under the threat of totalitarianism. In conclusion, the author mentioned some viable forms of resistance against the onslaught of totalitarianism, such as a resurrection of historical memory, sufficient funding for free education, development of radical democratic imaginary, new discourses, values, and a sense of spirituality for collective struggle, etc.
