美国华文文学置身美国却以华文进行创作的存在事实,使它客观上与生俱来地具有了一种双重“他者”的身份:对于美国的主流文学(英语文学)和东方母国(中国)的中国文学来说,它都是“他者”,这种“他者”性存在最终决定了它的“他者”立场和“他者”视角。而存在于美国华文文学中的“身份”焦虑,在经历了从本质主义的追寻到重建新的“身份”的变化之后,得以消解。

Existence as the "Alien" and Pursuit of "Identity" An Interpretation of Chinese Literature in America

The fact of being in the U. S. yet writing in Chinese results in a dual nature of the "alien" for Chinese literature in the U. S. On the one hand, Chinese literature in the U. S. is an alien to the English literature in the U. S. , and on the other hand, it is an alien to the Chinese literature in China. Such a duality results in a position and point of view of an alien for Chinese literature in the U. S. Moreover, following the shift from the pursuit of essentialism to rebuilding a new identity, identity anxiety in the Chinese literature in the U. S. gradually dissolved.
