The academic community has long disputed on Zhuangzi's wandering, whose correct understanding is important since Zhuangzi's wandering is related to his overall view a-bout the world of existence. To achieve a comprehensive, accurate and subtle understanding of the wandering, it is necessary to analyze, step by step, the basic meaning of Zhuangzi 's wandering , the width of his wandering and the best kind of wandering in his pursuit, and to restore the complexity and the multi-layered nature of his wandering. Zhuangzi s wandering was a spiritual wandering, mainly out of his suspicion for the world order. The variation of its connotations reveals his contradictions while its openness gives writers of subsequent generations the possibility to develop the various models of wandering.
