Economic growth is a process in which social material wealth is continuously increasing and accumulating, and it is the general character of the dynamic process of social reproduction. Investment, however, is closely related to the increase of wealth and to economic growth. Ever since modern western economics came into being, economic growth has been one of the major problems for theoretical study. The construction of China's socialist market economy could benefit from the theories of List, who proceeded from the objective realities of the backwardness of German economy.
