This paper views the characteristic features of Chaozhou operastagecraft from esthetic angle by citing ample instances of theatrical perfor mance to investigate into the esthetic feature of its laying emphasis on ex change with the audience in defiance of "tile fourth wall" which in Mr MeiLanfang's theory is deemed to be nonexistant, and into the esthetic principle ofstylization and artistry of its stagecraft.
