An Allegorical Epic of Human Growth: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner from Ecocritical Perspective

Ecocritics attribute "the greatest ecological allegory" to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,thus establishing Coleridge's outstanding position in literary history as a great poet.However,the research into the work and the carding of his ecological ideas are far from exhaustion.For these reasons,from ecocritical perspective the paper examines the work in the historical context of English Romanticism with the poet's nature outlook taken into consideration.It is found that the work is not only an allegorical epic about human growth,but also a heavy carrier of Coleridge's ecological ideas.
