论唐宋时期对西南地区自然地理的考察及意义

由于地理环境及国家政治重心一直在西北等原因,西南地区先秦以来与中原一直相对封闭隔绝,加之西南地区本身文化比较落后、传播不畅,缺少历史地理文献,所以唐代以前内地对广袤的西南地区了解甚少,充满神秘模糊感.这种状况从唐开始方被打破.唐宋时期随着中央王朝与西南地区政治、经济关系的加强及西部地理之学的兴盛,不少士大夫留心于西南地区自然地理的考察,对西南山川地貌、草木禽兽等进行了细致的观察与记录,对西南自然地理开始有了比较具体、客观的认识,留下了一批珍贵的历史文献,并且代表了中古时期对西南地情的认识水平.
