Charity Law in England An Overview

Charities have existed as a legal form of organization in England for over 400 years. This paper provides an overview of charity law and regulation in England from a non-legal perspective. It examines the principles underpinning charity law; the role of the charity regulator; and some of the recent changes contained in the Charities Act 2006.
