| Abstract: | Example sentences of English-Chinese dictionaries perform both dominant functions and recessive functions. The former requires that rendering of the entry word ill an example sentence should be taken as the core of translation of the whole sentence whereas the latter demands that the whole sentence be treated as the basic unit in example sentence translation. |
