Offcials of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education （BMCE） say change is inevitable, but plans to change the scoring system for the university-entrance examination （UEE） written in Beijing has parents and students -- especially on-line -- questioning the value of studying the English and Chinese languages. Why the controversy？ The BMCE recently announced the plan to change the way students are graded on the UEE beginning in 2016. At that time, the aggregate score of the English exam will drop from 150 to 100 points, while the aggregate score of the Chinese exam will rise from 150 to 180 points.
