张之洞在收回粤汉铁路权的斗争中与广大绅商民众的立场是一致的 ,即坚决要求废除中美奥汉铁路借款合同 ,收回丧失的粤汉路权。他不惜巨款 ,坚持力争 ,是这场斗争的主持者、指挥者 ,这是关心国家存亡安危、维护主权的表现 ,应予以客观承认

Zhang Zhidong and the Struggle of Recapturing the Right to the Guangdong-Hankou Railway

Zhang Zhidong shared the same standpoint with the vast numbers of gentlemen, merchants and populace in the struggle of recapturing the right to the railway between Guangdong and Hankou, i.e., firmly requiring to abolish the Sino American Treaty of the Loans for the Guangdong Hankou Railway" and recapturing the lost right to the Guangdong Hankou Railway. He was the sponsor and commander of that struggle not caring about enormous sum of money and persisting in vigorous struggle, which was the manifestation of his concern about the survival or extinction, safety or danger of the nation and his endeavor to defend the sovereignty of the country, and which should be recognized objectively.
