刘大通过总结古人学古的经验,总结出“因声求气”的学文方法,强调通过熟读吟咏古人的作品领会古人的神气,使“义法说”具体化,为中国的古文理论的发展做出了贡献;姚鼐在学习刘大的基础上,深入发展并系统化了“因声求气”的理论,提出了学古的“死法”与“活法”,把诗法与文法紧密地联系了起来,使这一理论更具有可操作性。

"Comprehending Spirit from Reading Aloud" by Tongcheng Scholar School

By summarizing ancient peoples experiences in studying classical works, LIU Da-kui produced the studying method of "Comprehending Spirit from Reading Aloud", which focuses on reading aloud the classical literature works to comprehend the spirit of the ancient people. The method is an embodiment of "connotation theory" and has made some contribution to the development of the theory of Chinese ancient prose. On the basis of studying LIU Da-kui , Yao Nai developed and made systematic the theory of " Comprehending Spirit from Reading Aloud " , and raised " Literal " and "Connotative" methods in studying ancient prose, which closely combined the poem writing with grammar and made the theory more operational.
