Abstract: | The success of an international financial centre depends on confidence and on occasions in the past confidence in the City of London has been undermined by the weakness of sterling, the threat of nationalization and government direction of investment of funds. Whichever government is in power, it should accept the need for international confidence and recognize the City of London for what it is, a major exporter, tax-payer and employer, which deserves as much support as any other industry. |
