The Black Music and the Self-expression of African-American Groups

The relationship between black music and American pop music is a reflection of the special situation of the mutual influence and infiltration of the African-American sub-culture and the mainstream American culture:it was shaped under outrageous pressure from the latter,and affected the latter to so great an extent that it has been identified as one of the most important features of American culture.The paper focuses on Harlem of New York City in 1920s.From the perspective of intercultural communication,it tries to prove that black culture can not enter into the discourse mainstream under the background of racial segregation.Therefore,jazz becomes a self-expression way of the blacks and the extensive spread of jazz makes the blacks recognized and accepted,which stimulates them to be awakening consciously.
