梁启超、胡适的初晤与"研究系"的思想转向

<梁启超年谱长编>和<胡适之先生年谱长编初稿>两种重要年谱都认为梁启超和胡适的初次见面是在1918年11月23日,这一说法被许多论著沿用.其实,此说有误.1918年底梁启超因参与北京政府出席巴黎和会的讨论,同时筹备私人赴欧考察事宜,致使未能与胡适在11月23日如期会面,直到梁启超从欧洲回来以后,1920年3月21日两人才在林长民的家中第一次正式见面.这两位知识界领袖的初晤颇具象征意义,透露了后五@四时期社会思潮及新知识分子群体演变的某些迹象.

The First Meeting of Liang Qichao and Hu Shi and the Change of Ideology of Yan Jiu Xi (an association for constitutional studies)

It is held that the first meeting of Liang Qichao and Hu Shi was on November 23, 1918 according to two important chronicles, Liang Qichao Nian Pu Chang Bian (a long chronicle of Liang Qichao"s life) and Hu Shizhi Xian Sheng Nian Pu Chang Bian Chu Gao (first draft of a long chronicle of reverend Mr. Hu Shizhi's life). It has been followed by a large scholarly writings. In fact, that date is wrong because that Liang Qichao was not able to meet Hu Shi on November 23 as scheduled due to his involving in discussions of Beijing government's attending of Paris Peace Conference and his preparing for a private investigation tour in Europe at the end of 1918. Indeed, it was on March 21, 1920 when Liang had returned from Europe that they met formally for the first time at Lin Changmin's house. The first meeting of the two leading men of the Chinese intelligentsia is quite symbolic, indicating the changes of the social thoughts and the new intelligentsia in the post May 4th Movement period.
