| Abstract: | Lord Jim,an outstanding work of Joseph Conrad,is a novel of exploring for one's soul.The story is about how Jim,a chief mate,first abandoned his ship to escape for his life,and then regained his human dignity.It shows the dilemma of human existence and nobility in the dual contradiction between natural desire and cultural desire.Its tragic force and its nobility originate from self-transcend,intrinsic cultural rules and the persistent pursuit for meaningful world.The search for meaningful home makes Jim's story go beyond popular cultural texts,and it has universal value for human study. |
