The Imagery in Wallace Stevens' Sunday Morning

As regards Sunday Morning, critics have tended to concern with its religious theme, but not dealt properly with what Morton Zabel called ＂the richness of the poem＇s imagery＂. So it is the main task of this paper to discuss and reveal these vivid images. We start, for the sake of argument, from three aspects of the imagery： sensuality, contradiction, and symbolism, and show how the poet used these images in the poem to realize ＂unification of sensibility＂,embody ＂tension＂, and express a secular religious faith.
