西方主流媒体的全球化报道及其叙事策略——以《经济学家》(1985—2011)为例

过去30年来,西方通过对全球化的讨论描绘了其全球愿景。西方主流媒体的重要代表《经济学家》就是一个很好的例子。该刊近30年来的全球化报道可被视为一个西方版本的全球故事。本文选取了该刊1985—2010年间有关全球化主题的新闻文本,并通过分析其全球化报道,揭示了该刊的全球叙事及其策略。研究表明,《经济学家》全球化报道的主题突出鲜明,从西方视角建构了一个全球故事,即实现全球市场经济,进而在全球推广西方民主政治制度和价值理念。前者是显性目标,后者是隐性目标。该刊采用单向的思辨策略,以极具张力的"俄罗斯套娃式"的叙事手段,对全球化的八个方面进行一系列报道,形成八个叙事圆圈,最后合力烘托出主题。

The Economist's Coverage of Globalization and its Narrative Strategy (1985—2010)

In the past 30years or so,the West has created a West-led global story through the discussion and debate of globalization.This paper selects from The Economist,Western elite journal,globalization-related news reports published between 1985—2010,and,by analyzing these reports,reveals The Economist's coverage of globalization and its narrative strategy.The study shows that the journal tells a traditional story of free trade and globalization in which a hidden agenda of one world led by the West is embeded.It is the journal's belief that the development of global market economy will naturally lead to capitalist democracy around the world.The Economist's strategy of covering globalization can be summarized as Russian Doll narrative or embeded narrative in which eight stories of globalization are narrated to serve the single purpose of pushing forward globalization in the hope of achieving global market economy and political integration as the West sees it.It is an unilateral thought.
