文章介绍了正在编撰中的《剑桥中国文学史》的缘起及其所面临的挑战,把普通读者作为目标读者的确定,及其独特的方法论和历史分期,并且逐一介绍了这本文学史中各章所面临的问题,以及参与撰写的美国汉学界的优秀学者对这些问题的处理方式,从而提出了在一种全球化的语境下,编撰一部新的中国文学史的可能性问题。

Is a New Literary History Possible

As the chief-editor of the up-coming Cambridge History of Chinese Literature, the author introduces the origin and the challenges of this important work. The author also introduces why they choose the generally educated readership as the object reader, and the unique methodology and the periodization in this new Chinese literary history. In the last part, the author gives a brief introduction of the problems in every chapter in this book, at the same time tells us how the scholars participated in this project will deal with them. This article answers the question of the possibility of a new Chinese literary history in the context of globalization.
