《红字》之悲

摘    要:《红字》沿用了原罪与救赎的西方传统宗教主题并由此而构成小说的总体悲剧性,即人物因内心的罪感所形成的皈依上帝而实际不可得的精神幻觉。通过丁梅斯代尔牧师这个悲剧人物的塑造与刻画,在他长达七年的赎罪过程中,体现了人物命运、信仰及其情感等的虚幻、矛盾与孤独,表现出一种生命境界的悲剧意识。

Abstract:In the late 19th century Nathaniel Hawthorne was an outstanding writer with some religious quality and complicated thoughts in America. The Scarlet Letter representing his creations was created in 1850. This novel used the traditional religious subject of sin and salvation to get tragic effect. It seemed that the guilty consciousness of the character which made it return to God but impossible actually, had became spiritual hallucination. Through the image of priest Dimmesdale, the novel conveyed to us the illusive, self- contradicted, and lonely feelings,expressed one kind of tragic consciousness in his atonement for seven years.
