试论左宗棠对河西走廊的治理与开发

左宗棠在担任陕甘总督、督办新疆军务期间,对甘肃河西走廊的开发与建设给予了极大的关注,在经济上采取的措施有屯田垦荒,安辑流亡;修路筑城,加强管理;修渠筑坝,兴办水利;因地制宜,发展畜牧;禁种罂粟,引植棉桑。文教上采取的措施有遍设义学,遍及教育;大办书院,广育人才,还十分重视生态环境的建设,提倡植树造林,绿化道路、市镇。为河西社会经济的发展,创造了较好的条件。

Zuo Zongtang''''s Contributions to the Development of Hexi Corridor

Zuo Zongtang paid much attention to the development of Hexi Corridor when he governed Shannxi and Gansu and supervised the military affairs of Xingjiang. In politics, he adopted the measures of developing wasteland, placating exiles, building roads and cities, and enforcing government rules. In economy, he adopted the measures of harnessing rivers, digging ditches, building ying-su irrigation works, improving farming, trying growing paddy, banning opium, and introducing cotton and mulberry. In culture and education, he adopted the measures of widely establishing schools, popularizing education, establishing academies of classical learning, and educating a large number of qualified personnel. He also paid much attention to the construction of roads and cities. All these measures created a good condition for the social economy of Hexi. Studying and summarizing Zuo Zongtang's ideas and achievements in developing Hexi is of great use to the development of Western China and regional economy.
