Comparative study of Mao Zedong''''s view of national interests and that of Deng Xiaoping

National interests are the starting point and the guiding rules when the sovereign states formulate and carry out the foreign strategy.Both Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping held that national sovereignty and security is the most important,they combined patriotism with internationalism all the time,and they adopted flexible and effective diplomatic policies in order to maintain Chinese national interests.However,there are some different characteristics in their views of national interests,for example,Mao Zedong attached importance to the political benefits and ideology,and he often dealt with the benefit conflicts among countries by way of struggle.On the contrary,Deng Xiaoping especially emphasized economic benefits and national interests,and he often dealt with the benefit conflicts among countries by way of peace.These characteristics were closely related to the change of the international circumstance and the topic of the time,the regulation of the social system,the effect of Chinese cultural tradition and the different subjective understanding.
