A Brief Analysis of Context's Limiting and Explaining Functions in Literary Translation

It is critical for a translator to get a knowledge of the context when translating a piece of literary work so as to present the original meaning and convey the writer＇s writing ideas and style exactly.Context refers to the linguistic situation where a language is used,that is,the background knowledge which is very important for understanding the language.In terms of literature, context can be divided into text context,situation context and culture context.When translating literary works,the contexts play a vital role.The essay mainly discusses two basic functions of context in the translation of literary works： limiting function and explaining function.
