《说文》正篆性质研究评说

对于《说文》正篆性质的研究,前人有三种看法:即小篆说、古文说、综合说。小篆说、古文说虽有合理之处, 但失之于偏颇,综合说较符合《说文》文本实际,亦缺乏深入的探讨,忽视了许慎在《说文》正篆形成中的历史作用。 《说文》正篆系统是许慎对其所收集到的各种文字资料加以规范整理而形成的,是一个崭新的完全不同于以前任何 时代的文字系统,对这一系统许慎称之为“篆文”。

A Comment on the Official Seal Character Quality of "Shuowen Jiezi" (Remarks on the Character Structure)

there have been three different views with regard to the official seal character state of "Remarks on the Character Structure": lesser seal character theory, ancient writings theory, and comprehensive theory. Reasonable as the former two are, they are biased. Comparatively, the third theory conforms to what "Remarks on the Character Structure" is about, though it is short of deep investigations and overlooks the historical role Xu Shen played in the formation of seal character in his works. The official seal character system as in "Remarks on the Character Structure" is the result of Xu Shen's effort in standardizing all character materials he has collected and is a new character system totally different from all previous ones. Xu Shen named it "seal character".
